The Technology

A Full Stack Built for Gigatons

From captured CO₂ to certified building material — every step of the Carbix process is engineered for industrial scale, permanent sequestration, and drop-in compatibility with existing construction supply chains.

Four Layers. One Integrated Platform.

Carbix is not a single invention — it is a vertically integrated technology stack. Each layer is independently defensible and collectively creates a system that no single-point solution can replicate.

Layer 01 — Carbonation Process

Permanent Sequestration Through Mineral Chemistry

At the core of Carbix is accelerated mineral carbonation — a process that mimics and dramatically speeds up the natural weathering of silicate rocks. CO₂ is reacted with alkaline mineral feedstocks under controlled temperature and pressure conditions, forming thermodynamically stable calcium and magnesium carbonates.

Unlike biological carbon capture (which can reverse) or geological storage (which requires monitoring), mineral carbonation is permanent. The carbon is locked into solid mineral form — the same form it takes over millions of years in nature — in hours inside our reactor.

Reaction TypeAccelerated mineral carbonation
FeedstockAlkaline industrial by-products & natural silicates
ProductsCaCO₃, MgCO₃ — stable mineral carbonates
PermanenceThermodynamically stable — no reversal pathway
CO₂ SourcePoint-source industrial emissions (flue gas)
Mineral carbonation chemistry process
CO₂ + Ca(OH)₂ → CaCO₃ + H₂O
Core carbonation reaction — thermodynamically irreversible

Layer 02 — Reactor Systems

Industrial-Grade Hardware, Modular by Design

Our proprietary reactor systems are engineered to run the carbonation process continuously at industrial throughput. Each unit is self-contained, skid-mounted, and designed for rapid deployment alongside existing industrial infrastructure — no new buildings, no major civil works.

The modular architecture means capacity scales linearly: add reactor units to increase throughput. A single unit processes hundreds of tonnes of CO₂ per year; a full installation at a large cement plant can sequester millions of tonnes annually.

ThroughputScalable — modular unit stacking

UtilitiesPower, water, feedstock — sourced on-site
IP StatusProprietary design, broad patent coverage

Layer 03 — SCM Output Quality

Building Materials That Meet the Bar

The carbonated mineral output from our reactors is processed into supplemental cementitious materials (SCMs) — the same category as fly ash and slag, which together replace hundreds of millions of tonnes of Portland cement globally each year.

Carbix SCMs are engineered to meet ASTM C618 and equivalent international standards. They are drop-in replacements for conventional SCMs, requiring no changes to concrete mix design, batching equipment, or construction processes. Performance data is available for review by qualified specifiers.

Layer 04 — Deployment Model

Co-Located. Capital-Efficient. Scalable.

Carbix reactors are deployed directly at industrial emission sources — cement plants, steel mills, power generation facilities, and other heavy-industry sites. This co-location strategy eliminates CO₂ transport costs, reduces capital requirements, and creates a direct commercial relationship between the host facility and the SCM output.

We operate on a build-own-operate model: Carbix installs and operates the reactor system, the host facility provides CO₂ and utilities, and both parties share in the value of the SCM output. This structure minimises upfront cost for industrial partners while allowing Carbix to maintain operational control and data continuity.

Industrial facility deployment site

Target deployment sites

Cement Plants
The largest single source of industrial CO₂ — and the natural customer for SCM output
Steel Mills
High-temperature flue gas streams with significant CO₂ concentration
Power Generation
Large-volume emission sources with existing infrastructure for co-location
Waste-to-Energy
Mixed flue gas streams suited to our feedstock-flexible reactor design

Defensible IP Across the Stack

Carbix holds patent coverage across the carbonation chemistry, reactor design, and SCM processing steps. Our IP portfolio is designed to protect each layer of the stack independently — creating multiple moats rather than a single point of vulnerability.
